Let me introduce this black boy and at the same time my blog. My name is Tony, Ubah Ikechukwu
Anthony, and yes I'm Black and I’m African. All my life I've tried to figure
out what informed the black man's pride in himself and what was special about
my roots. Well the third decade of my existence rounding up and I’m still trying to figure that
out. Every black man or woman I admired growing up have at one instance either said I’m
black and I'm proud, or have meant to say it. Most, i never got the chance to
meet and to ask the question why they said, and/or felt so. For the few whom I had the
chance to meet and have a chat with, they all had less than half a reason to
cement their vague claims. They all appeared to be in the bandwagon of the
sudden realization which the white colonialists had embedded within the walls of our
cranium. for these black men i well-regarded, in a bid to defend their claims sang the vane glorious songs of the sung and unsung champions with black skins, who's feat have either been matched or outclassed by the less coloured
people or the “colourless” men who refer to themselves as whites. I'm thinking it is because the blackmen have stood like rocks, who can not move, but can be moved. Until I figure
that out, I’ll keep playing to the gallery and lift my shoulders high. We are who we say we are.
I am
the Blackboy thinking loud.
I was born the third of 4 siblings, and anyone who knew me growing up will know me as the different one. I was neither the Okpala(first son), the Ada(First
Daughter), nor the Odu(Last child), I managed one of many the many less celebrated titles
like; the second son, the last boy, the fat kid, the antisocial, the stubborn
one, the weirdo, the nerd, the one who cared least about school, and also careless
about Aunty *** or Uncle ****’s promise to take us abroad. Well all these
thoughts were all in my head no one else seemed to notice all my differences at home,
but me. Jezzzz! everyone at home went by their Local names but me, I was called
the Oyibo name, yet no one at home could feel it. Great consolations though, my Local name happens to be my
father’s, and that put a smile on my face. These early feeling thus, could be the porter's tool that molded me into the thinker that I think
I am, or the nagging Blackboy I might actually be. You find out.
I have very strong personal opinions about sooooo many issues; society,
religious, politics, education, sports, emotions, food(yummy) and everything, I
mean everything. These thoughts I’ve kept to my self, and the few times I got
to spill out a bit of my mind, it drives me into awkward moments, teacher’s
wrath, aggressive feedbacks, insults, or an avalanche of debate and controversies. On this
platform I hope to collect the dewdrops from my straying thoughts, and I'm going to
share this wine with you. Please come into my head and live my thought with me.
I hope to get your kickbacks.
Thanks
Ubah Ikechukwu Anthony
